Night of Science
Science for the whole family
The University of Hamburg participated in the seventh Night of Science, at which it presented over 120 exciting programs. Great diversity of scientific work at the University was on display! The following questions were discussed: Is pink a colour? How relevant are nuclear weapons these days? Other highlights were Baff! The Science Show and the Science Slam at the Audimax on the Campus of the University of Hamburg.
Never before seen exhibits
Furthermore, previously never seen exhibits from the valuable research collections of the University of Hamburg were presented in the East wing of the main building, Edmund-Siemers-Allee 1. Adults and children had the opportunity to participate in all events, experiments, action campaigns, exhibits and lectures.
Get around with the shuttle bus
Kickoff time for the fifth Night of Science was 5 P.M., around midnight the event came to a successful close. A shuttle bus drove the visitors comfortably from one event location to the next. In total over 50 universities, research institutes and other scientific institutions in Hamburg and North Germany under the leadership of the Hamburg Office of Science participated.
Sommer of Science
In the anniversary year 2019, the Night of Science and the Day of Science became the Sommer Science: The niversities of hamburg and research institutions are transforming the Rathausmarkt into a large campus landscape. Around 50,000 visitors celebrated the Sommer of Science with us and turned the city into a campus for four days! From 20th - 23rd of June 2019, they experienced a colourful science festival in the heart of the city: experiments, shows, hands-on activities, exciting exhibits on a wide range of science topics - and all this in the middle of the Hamburg Rathausmarkt.
In four large theme tents, around 40 Hamburg universities and research institutions offered fascinating insights into such topics as climate and the environment, technology, natural sciences, medicine, art and city history - for knowledge foxes and night owls of all ages.
